1. The Park District of Oak Park received a $1.78 million grant to build the Community Recreation Center as a Net Zero Energy facility. Funding from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation will support renewable energy efforts at the site. (Patch)
2. Pleasant Home is also “going green” by upgrading to a more environmentally-friendly heating and cooling system. The new geothermal system will regulate the temperature while still preserving the historic elements of “one of Oak Park’s most notable homes.” (Wednesday Journal)
3. River Forest Village President Catherine Adduci will interview three candidates for the fire chief position today. The Village also conducted six interviews this weekend to fill the village administrator role. (Wednesday Journal)
4. Rush Oak Park Hospital is seeking River Forest residents to take part in a focus group for its Community Health Needs Assessment. “The goal is to have the voice of our community within that report to address identified needs,” according to a Village press release. (VRF)
5. The Annual River Forest Pumpkin Smash will be held Nov. 6 at Roosevelt Middle School. The event hosted by District 90 and Lakeshore Recycling Services hopes to “smash last year’s record of 805 pumpkins composted.” (VRF)
