River Forest Police Reports: Burglary, DUI, Theft, Property Damage

River Forest police reported incidents from Oct. 1-15.

The following information is courtesy of the River Forest Police Department.

At 4:59 p.m. Oct. 1, an officer was sent to Dominican University Murray Hall for a reported burglary. The victim related her MacBook Pro laptop and iPhone 5s were stolen from her unlocked dorm room. The approximate loss was valued at $930.

At 5:56 p.m. Oct. 2, an officer was sent to 401 Thatcher, Metra Train Station for reports of a bicycle theft. The victim related that someone removed his Gary Fisher hybrid bike from the bike rack. The bike was locked at the time of the incident and was valued at approximately $450.

At 2:31 a.m. Oct. 3, an officer saw a car commit several traffic violations in the area of 7300 Lemoyne. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver showed signs of intoxication. The driver, James E. Dollerschell, 22 of Naperville, failed field sobriety tests at the scene and was taken into custody. At the station, a Breathalyzer test revealed that Dollerschell’s BAC was .154, which is almost twice the legal standard of .08. Dollerschell was charged with DUI, DUI over .08, speeding, and several other traffic violations.

At 8:11 p.m. Oct. 4, officers were sent to Jewel Foods on West Lake for reports of a retail theft in progress. The offender had fled the store after taking $98 worth of Rogaine products. Officers located the offender on the 300 block of Marion in Oak Park. The subject, Eduardo Gonzalez, 25 of Melrose Park, was taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor retail theft. A computer check revealed that Gonzalez had an active arrest warrant out of Maywood for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

At 10:44 a.m. Oct. 11, officers were sent to a reported residential burglary in the 1300 block of Park Avenue. Someone entered the residence by kicking in the rear door of the house. Once inside, the offenders stole a Rolex watch and other jewelry. The detective unit is currently investigating this matter.

At 10:58 p.m. Oct. 11, an officer observed a vehicle commit several traffic violations on the 7500 block of Lake Street. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver exhibited signs of intoxication. The driver was unable to provide a driver’s license or proof of insurance. A computer check revealed the subject had a suspended license due to a previous DUI arrest. The driver, Donald M. Withers, 53 of Chicago, failed field sobriety tests at the scene and was taken into custody. At the station, Withers refused to submit to a Breathalyzer test. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Felony Review Unit was contacted and approved felony aggravated DUI, driving while license suspended, no valid Insurance and several other traffic offenses.

At 10:58 p.m. Oct. 13, officers responded to call of a subject breaking out the front glass window a bank on North Harlem. The offender was located less than a block from the incident, and he was positively identified by witness to the event. The subject, John Paul A. Roeser, 25 of River Forest, was taken into custody and transported to the station. The subject commented that he was mad at the bank after losing his wallet. The damage to the bank was captured on bank security cameras. Due to the damage being over $300, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Felony Review Unit was contacted. They approved one count of felony criminal damage to property.

At 8:10 a.m. Oct. 14, officers responded to a call of a retail theft in progress at in the 7500 block of West Lake Street. Ten bottles of Grey Goose Vodka, valued at $230, had been stolen from the store. Officers observed the offender running eastbound in the 7300 block of Quick. The subject was taken into the custody and the store products were recovered. The offender, Steven B. Wilbourn, 52 of Chicago, was found to have a previous retail theft conviction in 2012. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Felony Review Unit was contacted and they approved one count of felony retail theft.
