River Forest Police Reports: Car Burglary, DUI, Retail Theft

River Forest police reported incidents from April 5 to 12.

The following information is courtesy of the River Forest Police Department.

At 8:28 p.m. April 5, officers were sent to 7231 W. Lake, Ulta, for reports of a retail theft in progress. The store manager said someone had just fled the store after taking $184 worth of Gucci Measure fragrances. The offender was last seen leaving the area in a Chevy Equinox. The Detective Unit is investigating the incident.

At 1:05 p.m. April 6, officers were sent to 7929 W. North Ave., CVS Pharmacy, for reports of a retail theft in progress. Someone left the store with $136 worth of liquor. The person was last seen running eastbound on North Avenue. The Detective Unit is investigating the incident.

At 3:54 a.m. April 10, an officer saw a car was dragging its muffler and it also committed several traffic violations on the 7600 block of Lake Street. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver showed signs of intoxication. The driver, Terry M. Tousant, 33 of Melrose Park, failed field sobriety tests at the scene and was taken into custody. A computer check showed Tousant had a suspended driver’s license and did not have valid insurance. Tousant refused to take a Breathalyzer test at the station. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Felony Review Unit was contacted and approved Felony DUI charges along with several other traffic violations.

At 8:20 a.m. April 10, an officer was sent to the police department lobby for reports of an Apple MacBook and $100.00 cash being taken from an unlocked car on the 100 block of Park Avenue. The incident had occurred overnight and the loss was estimated at $900.

At noon April 11, an officer conducting a business check at 7929 W. North Ave., CVS Pharmacy, was approached by store security about several recent thefts of liquor. About $263 worth of Jameson Whiskey and Knob Creek Bourbon had been taken from the store by the same individuals. Security video was turned over to police and the Detective Unit is investigating the events.

At 5:08 p.m. April 12, an officer responded to a home on the 300 block of Ashland for reports on an identity theft. The victim said several credit card companies had contacted her about potential fraudulent transactions in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. About $4,000 worth of purchases were made or attempted in these states. The victim believed her personal information may have been compromised during a recent mortgage refinance for her home. The victim has cancelled the accounts and is working with the three credit bureaus to prevent future breaches.
