Student-Led Harmony For Hearts Fills Oak Park Arms With Inspiring Musical Performance
Oak Park students from Harmony For Hearts volunteered at the Oak Park Arms. Classic and jazz performance brought inspiration.
Musicians from Harmony for Hearts, a student-led organization dedicated to sharing the power of music with senior communities, performed at the Oak Park Arms Senior Living on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Founded in 2023, Harmony for Hearts has expanded its reach, holding concerts at senior living facilities throughout Chicagoland and establishing chapters in places such as Malaysia, Ohio, and Texas. Despite its young age, the organization is making a significant impact by connecting passionate young musicians with appreciative audiences.
Indi Shannon of Oak Park, president of Harmony for Hearts Oak Park Chapter and a senior at Oak Park River Forest High School, led the performance at the Oak Park Arms. The repertoire consisted of classical pieces, most chosen for their ability to move the audience, with touches of jazz mixed in.

“Playing at senior communities has changed the reason that I make music,” said Shannon. “Instead of playing because it’s fun, making music now is about how I can make other people feel the same way that I do.”
"Hearing Harmony for Hearts was absolutely marvelous," said Renee Steingard, director of leasing and resident engagement at the Oak Park Arms. "Their classical and jazz pieces were so touching, and they brought intergenerational connection to our residents. It truly brightened everyone's day and left us feeling inspired."

Oak Park Arms Senior Living is a rental retirement community that provides senior housing in the form of independent living.
