Tobacco Buying and Selling Age Raised to 21 in Oak Park
The minimum age to buy tobacco in the village will increase from 18 to 21 in August.

Oak Park, IL - Effective Aug. 1, the minimum age to buy tobacco in Oak Park will be 21 instead of 18.
The Oak Park Board of Trustees approved the change in a 7-0 vote at its June 6 meeting.
The minimum age to sell tobacco will also increase to 21 beginning Aug. 1, 2017, according to the tobacco sales ordinance. The extra time was put in place to help retailers adjust to the change.

Trustees also approved an increased minimum penalty, rising from $50 to $100, for any retailers that sell tobacco to patrons younger than 21.
