Violent Crime Down in Oak Park: FBI Report

The FBI has released the 2014 Unified Crime Report.

The FBI recently released its annual ”Crime in the United States” report, which shows there were fewer violent crimes reported in Oak Park in 2014 than there were in 2013.

According to the report, Oak Park saw 103 violent crimes in 2014, while in 2013, the village had 126 reports of violent crimes.

In River Forest, there were 19 violent crimes reported in 2014, and 15 reported in 2013.

Violent crime includes offenses involving force or the threat of force: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assault, according to the FBI.

Of the violent and non-violent crimes reported in 2014 in Oak Park, there were:

  • 0 murders and non-negligent manslaughters
  • 5 rapes
  • 77 robberies
  • 21 aggravated assaults
  • 1,564 property crimes
  • 401 burglaries
  • 1,088 reports of larceny/theft

Nationally, violent crime decreased last year by 0.2 percent from 2013, according to the report.
