Woman, 41, Killed In Orland Hills House Fire

An Orland Hills woman died after a Tuesday afternoon fire at an Orland Hills home.

ORLAND HILLS, IL — A woman has died after being trapped inside a burning home in Orland Hills Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Crews were called at 2 p.m. to a fire in a home in the 8900 block of Beacon Lane. First responders learned one person was trapped inside. Jessica Maurer, 41, of the same block of Beacon Lane, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner. A second occupant escaped unharmed.

The fire was contained to the room of origin, according to a release from the Orland Fire Protection District.

Three police officers and a second victim were evaluated on the scene, but declined medical transport.

The cause of death and the cause of the fire are still under investigation by the Orland Hills Police Department, the Orland Fire Protection District and the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
