Fight Crime By Giving Orland PD Security Camera Access: New Program
Business and homeowners in Orland Park can allow police access to their surveillance footage, in a new initiative.
ORLAND PARK, IL — Orland Park police will work to create a network of surveillance footage from residents and businesses, as part of a new initiative to combat crime.
The Village last week said the department will launch its participation in Fusus, a program that integrates business and home security camera footage for use by authorities.
"The Fusus program represents a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of our community," said Orland Park Police Chief Eric Rossi. "By leveraging the power of surveillance technology and engaging our residents and businesses, we are empowering everyone to actively contribute to a safer Orland Park."

Fusus is described on its website as a system that enables public safety agencies "to function more efficiently and with improved operational intelligence, by creating a common operating picture that emphasizes officer, citizen, and community safety."
The program "is designed to leverage the existing network of security cameras throughout the community, enabling law enforcement to access real-time video footage in the event of an incident," the Village said.

"By partnering with local businesses and residents, the Orland Park Police Department aims to establish a comprehensive surveillance network that will greatly assist in solving crimes, deterring criminal activity, and ensuring the safety of our community."
An entirely voluntary program, businesses and homeowners can opt in by granting Orland Park police access to their camera footage.
"The Fusus program is a game-changer for law enforcement in Orland Park. By integrating security camera assets, we can respond more effectively to incidents, deter criminal activity, and ultimately, solve crimes faster," said Orland Park Police Commander Kenneth Rosinski. "This program exemplifies our commitment to leveraging technology and fostering collaboration to create a safer environment for all residents and businesses."
The Village detailed benefits of the program to include:
1. Enhanced Crime Prevention: By integrating security camera assets, law enforcement gains a broader and more comprehensive view of the community, deterring criminal activity and reducing the likelihood of incidents.
2. Rapid Incident Response: Real-time access to camera footage allows the police department to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies, improving overall public safety.
3. Efficient Investigations: The availability of high-quality video evidence significantly aids in identifying suspects, solving crimes, and bringing perpetrators to justice.
4. Community Collaboration: The Fusus program fosters a strong partnership between law enforcement and the community, empowering residents and businesses to actively contribute to a safer Orland Park.
Access to any footage in the network will be controlled and limited to only authorized personnel, the Village said.
"The Orland Park Police Department assures residents and business owners that their privacy and security are of utmost importance," the Village said in a release.
