ORLAND PARK, IL — A man was arrested and faces several felony charges after leading police on a chase Monday evening, Orland Park police said Tuesday. A drone eventually helped police take him into custody.

On Jan. 12, Orland Park police conducted a narcotics investigation in the 14100 block of John Humphrey Drive.During the investigation, officers learned that a tenant at a residence in the area had recently been evicted and that a large quantity of cannabis was inside the residence.

While officers were on scene, they observed the former resident, identified as Deandre Walton, 38, driving past the location. A traffic stop was attempted on the vehicle, which had an expired registration, police said. Walton then fled the scene at a high rate of speed, traveling off the roadway multiple times and into several residential yards before eluding officers, police said.

Officers continued their investigation and learned that Walton had ties to a nearby residence. Surveillance was established at that location, and at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers observed Walton being dropped off in the 8900 block of Riviera Parkway. Walton fled on foot into a pond and marshy area near Schussler Park.

Heavy police presence was reported as officers established a perimeter and deployed the department’s Drone as First Responder (DFR). The drone located Walton hiding in dense brush near the pond. Real-time location information provided by drone operators allowed officers to safely take Walton into custody without further incident, police said.
