Man Tried to Walk Off with $420 Copper Pot: Blotter

Illegal Prescription Drugs

Debra A. Gonzalez, 50, of the 8100 block of 174th Street in Tinley Park, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and cited for driving with a suspended or revoked license and making an improper turn, according to a report. Police spoke with Gonzalez at about 6:41 p.m. at Walgreens, 7900 159th St. The officer knew Gonzalez from a prior incident and followed her as she drove away.

The officer stopped her Escape SUV after allegedly seeing her make a fast right turn into the outer most westbound lane of 159th Street, according to a report. She was taken into custody for driving on a suspended license. Police then conducted a search of her SUV, which turned several prescription medication bottles, some under different names and others in her name.

Bottles were labeled as containing Hydrocodone, with some that were empty and one of contained a mix of controlled medications, according to a report. She told police she went to Walgreens to fill prescription medications she said were given to her by a dentist. Police suspected that the prescriptions were fake.

Copper Pot Theft

Phil N. Mazurek, 66, of the first block of West Drive in Northlake, was charged with retail theft, according to a report. Employees at Williams-Sonoma had noticed several pots that had gone missing and were monitoring one of the store displays. One customer, later identified as Mazurek, was seen in the store near the display and was holding large Pottery Barn bag.

An employee then saw him leave the store and put a copper pot into the trunk of a Maroon Ford Taurus, according to the report. When questioned, Mazurek said he was carrying the bag because he had returned several items to Pottery Barn. A check of the nearby Pottery Barn revealed that no returns were made that day. The pot, valued at $420, was recovered. Mazurek was arrested and the car was impounded.

MONDAY, FEB. 18

Retail Theft

British E. Hammons, 18, of the 9600 block of Hoxie Street in Chicago, was charged with retail theft, according to a report. Loss prevention officers at Macy’s Department Store, 1 Orland Square Dr., allegedly had stopped Hammons at about 7:30 p.m. after watching her take several pieces of clothing off the displays. She and another woman were seen taking the clothes into the changing room and then leaving the store.

A Macy’s employee stopped Hammons but the other person ran off, according to the report. She is accused of taking $298 worth of clothing, which was allegedly found in her purse, and was due in Bridgeview court on March 6.
