Man Was Driving 90 MPH Seconds Before Crash That Killed Other Driver: Orland PD

The crash happened Saturday, Oct. 28 at 151st and Harlem Avenue.

ORLAND PARK, IL — A Broadview man faces charges after allegedly hitting another car after running a red light while driving at excessive speeds Oct. 28, Orland Park police said. The driver later died, police said.

Police were called just after 4 a.m. Oct. 28 to a crash at 151st Street and Harlem Avenue. Police learned a Nissan Sentra had been struck while turning north on a green arrow on Harlem Avenue. The Sentra was hit by a southbound Kia Forte that entered the intersection after failing to stop at a red light, police said.

The driver and lone occupant of the Nissan was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. No further information on his identity has been provided.

Further investigation revealed that the driver of the Kia, Elijah A. White of Broadview, disregarded the red light while driving in excess of 90 mph five seconds prior to the impact, police said.

White, 23, was charged with reckless homicide. He will attend a detention hearing Saturday.
