ORLAND PARK, IL — No one was injured, and an Orland Park fitness facility was heavily damaged Wednesday after a fire in a storage area climbed the walls and filled the building with smoke, fire officials said.

Multiple 911 calls came in Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. for a fire at UFC Gym, 66 Orland Square Drive. Callers reported smoke in the rear of the building. Orland Fire Protection District on the scene found fire running up the walls in the storage area, officials said.

The fire was spreading quickly due to combustibles stored near the electrical panels, said Orland Fire Protection District Spokesman Ray Hanania . The electrical panels needed to be disconnected from the power supply. ComEd was called to the scene.

A full still alarm was called to provide additional manpower and equipment to the scene and to backfill Orland stations. A box alarm was activated for additional resources because of air temperatures exceeding 90 degrees, high humidity, and additional rehab activities. Other departments providing coverage and manpower were Palos Fire, Tinley Fire, Palos Heights, Lemont Fire, North Palos, Homer Fire, Evergreen Park, Crestwood, and Oak Forest.
