Sleeping Driver Woken By Police, Charged with DUI: Blotter

Orland Park police reports, Feb. 25 to March 2.

SATURDAY, MARCH 2

Outstanding Warrant

Louis C. Perales, 43, of the 13900 block of 84th Avenue in Orland Park, was arrested on a Cook County charge of failing to appear for driving with a suspended license, according to a report. He also was cited for driving with a cracked brake light, driving without insurance, failing to notify the Secretary of State of an address change and driving with a suspended licence. Police stopped Perales at about 9:51 .m. near 15600 94th Ave. for having a broken taillight. He was due in Bridgeview court on March 25.

Wake Up, Sleepy Head

Amy L. Zvonik, 35, of the 400 block of Chestnut Street in Hinsdale, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08., driving below the minimum speed, driving without a valid license and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a report. Police found Zvonik asleep behind the wheel of her white Dodge Durango at around 6 p.m. near the intersection of 156th Street and LaGrange Road. The SUV was running and appeared to be in drive. Zvonik reportedly did not wake immediately, despite the officer yelling and knocking loudly on the window. When she woke, she drove the SUV forward without speaking to the officer and, eventually, stopped in the Kohl’s parking lot. The officer could smell on odor of alcohol coming from her breath when she spoke. Zvonik was arrested after taking field sobriety tests. She also took a breath test. A search of the car turned up a pipe for smoking marijuana. Zvonik is due in Bridgeview court on April 16.

FRIDAY, MARCH 1

Outstanding Warrant

Patrick J. Garcia, 20, of the 3000 block of Union Avenue in Steger, was arrested on an outstanding Orland Park warrant, according to a report. An Orland Park officer was called at about 4:48 p.m. to the Steger Police Department to pick up Garcia. He was due in a downtown Chicago courtroom on March 2. The charge for the warrant wasn’t given.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 27

DUI Charges For Chicago Ridge Man

Robert R. Rodriguez, 20, of the 11000 block of Mason Avenue in Chicago Ridge, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08, disobeying a traffic control device, driving without insurance and failing to signal when required, according to a report. Police had followed Rodriguez at about 5:44 p.m. from the Orland Square Mall after receiving a call about someone who was intoxicated. He was stopped after police saw him drive through a stop sign. An officer reported smelling an odor of alcohol while talking with Rodriguez. He was arrested after performing field sobriety tests. Later, he took a breath test. Rodriguez was due in Bridgeview court on March 14.

MONDAY, FEB. 25

Theft From Macy's

Melek F. Saleh, 19, of the first block of 15th Street in Chicago Heights, was charged with retail theft, according to a report. She is accused of taking $286.46 worth of items from displays at about 11:56 a.m. in Macy’s, 1 Orland Square Dr. Store employees reported seeing her enter a changing area with items and a bag. She was later seen leaving with a bag that appeared to have more items in it. Saleh is due in Bridgeview court on April 12.
