1 Dead, 1 Injured In Motorcycle Crash on Route 30

A 31-year-old motorcyclist is dead after crashing into a Kia Optima that failed to yield to oncoming traffic, police said.

OSWEGO, IL — One man is dead and a woman is injured after a motorcycle collided with a vehicle on Route 30 and Kendall Point Drive on Wednesday evening, according to police.

Oswego Police Department and Fire Protection District were called to the scene of the crash at around 6:10 p.m. There, officers took over from a witness who attempted to render aid to 31-year-old motorcyclist James Khawshaba, who later died from his injuries at a local hospital.

The driver of a Kia Optima was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Lorrie Lackland, 55, was cited for operating an uninsured vehicle and failing to yield while turning left.

The Illinois State Police Department’s Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to conduct a reconstruction of the crash and determined Khawshaba, a Naperville resident, was heading eastbound on Route 30 when he collided with Lackland, an Oswego resident, attempting to turn left without yielding onto Kendall Point Drive.

Route 30 was shut down from Fifth Street to Goodwin Drive for approximately five hours but is open to normal traffic as of Thursday morning.
