6-Year-Old District 308 Student Found Dead: Kendall Co. Sheriff
Kerrigan Rutherford was found "unresponsive and not breathing" inside a house in the 100 block of Boulder Hill Pass Thursday afternoon.
OSWEGO, IL — The Kendall County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 6-year-old student of the Oswego School District 308.
According to a release, the sheriff's officers responded at 1:28 p.m. to a home in the 100 block of Boulder Hill Pass Thursday afternoon, for a child "reportedly unresponsive and not breathing." Police said deputies and Oswego Fire Protection District personnel located the child, identified as Kerrigan Rutherford, deceased inside the residence.
The Kendall County Coroner's Office and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services assisted sheriff's deputies at the scene.

Police said Rutherford's death still is being investigated as a death investigation with an unknown cause as of Monday. An autopsy has yet to be completed and investigators are waiting for toxicology results to come in.
Rutherford's aunt, Trisha Redmond, has created a GoFundMe to help cover the cost of her funeral. The goal is to raise $10,000 and so far $5,585 has been raised.

"We want more than anything for Kerri's family to be able to say goodbye to her with dignity," Redmond said on the GoFundMe page.
