AFRICAN AMERICAN HERITAGE ADVISORY BOARD PARTNERSWITH PARAMOUNT THEATREPromoting Film Series and Increasing Cultural Awareness

The City of Aurora’s African American Heritage Advisory Board (AAHAB) and the Paramount Theatre are partnering to showcase African American films and actors during Black History Month.
For just $1, movie lovers of all ages can enjoy a different film every Monday night in February. The first 100 patrons will receive free popcorn and soda.
“We’re so excited to sponsor the February Classic Movie Mondays,” said Toussaint Smith, AAHAB Chairman. “This is a great opportunity to highlight African Americans’ contributions to the Arts and for families to have a fun, affordable night out.”

The Classic Movie Mondays schedule for February includes:
February 4th The Wiz (1978) – the Land of Oz is transformed into a modernized, urban, African American experience

February 11th Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967) - this drama addresses the then controversial views towards interracial marriage
February 18th Glory (1989) - the journey of a commanding officer and his African American soldiers as they fight a battle of war and prejudice
February 25th Car Wash (1976) - it’s a full day of crazy antics and hilarious interactions between the multiracial staff at a Los Angeles car wash and its strange visitors
“The Classic Movie Mondays series has been a real hit,” said Tim Rater, Paramount President and Chief Executive Officer. “We hope this celebration of Black History Month will introduce more of the community to all the Paramount has to offer and keep them coming back.”
Doors open at the Paramount Theatre at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays and shows begin at 7:00 p.m. The theater is located in downtown Aurora at 23 E. Galena Boulevard. For information on parking or other questions visit http://paramountaurora.com or call 630) 896-6666.

The African American Heritage Advisory Board is a non-partisan, community-based board that is funded by the City of Aurora. Its purpose is to educate others about the contributions and impact of African Americans, both locally and throughout the world, and act as s a bridge between the African American community and all other communities within the City of Aurora.

The Paramount opened its doors in September of 1931.
