Hunt Club Second-Graders Raise Money for Read to Feed

The Second Grade students in Mrs. Barboza’s, Miss Llamas’, Mrs. Foster’s and Mrs. Benevelli’s classes at Hunt Club Elementary have been reading, and at the same time raising money for Heifer International’s Read to Feed program, which is a program that raises money to end world hunger.  The sponsored program helps students raise money for Heifer to provide livestock, seeds, trees and training to families in need around the world. 

With the help of family and friends, our students pledged a penny, nickel, dime, quarter, or more for every book they read throughout the months of November and December.  At the end of the program the students collected their pledges.  Mrs. Barboza’s, Miss Llamas’, Mrs. Foster’s, and Mrs. Benevelli’s classes collected a total of $983.60. 

With this money we were able to purchase three goats, one share of goats, one sheep, two sets of tree seedlings, two trios of rabbits, five sets of honeybees, four flocks of chicks, and a flock of ducks/geese.  We also donated the change of $3.60 to be used where it is most needed. 

Our students were so proud of themselves and the money they were able to raise.  Through this project, our students learned that they can make a difference and help those less fortunate around the world.  Hunt Club Elementary is proud of the Second Graders and what they accomplished!
