Oswego Officer Receives Top Honor

The Kendall County Association of Chiefs of Police and the Optimist Clubs of Oswegoland and Yorkville held their 26th annual Respect for Law Banquet March 19 in Yorkville. 

Oswego Police officer Brandon Dilg won the Officer of the Year awrd after being nominated for his efforts in the investigation and arrest of a suspect wanted for attempted murder.

Dilg was assisting other officers during a traffic stop in relation to a disturbance. He stopped a man who was walking away from the vehicle who was  acting suspicious and refused to remove his hands from his pockets. The man also lied about his identity.

Dilg observed the suspect had a gun in his jacket pocket after which the suspect fled the scene on foot after leaving the jacket and gun behind. Dilg caught the suspect and it was later determined he was wanted on attempted murder charges. 

The suspect was charged on multiple felony counts and was sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

"Officer Dilg's dedication and professionalism is reflected in his commitment to the department and to the citizens of the village of Oswego," said a news release from the department in announcing Dilg's award.
