Oswego Woman Needs Your Votes in National Contest

Debbie Yelensky, an Oswego mom with two children, is the cook and kitchen manager at her daughter's preschool, Aurora Montessori School.

She left her well-paid corporate job 10 years ago to stay home with her children and follow her passion. Fast forward to today and Yelensky has developed a strong passion for reversing the national health epidemic of childhood obesity.

She's revamped her school menu and has eliminated all pre-packaged, processed, forzen or canned goods from the menu. All lunch items are cooked from scratch with a heavy focus on fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

Most notable, the school has participated in First Lady Michelle Obama's Chefs Move to Schools program. Yelensky has also hosted parent workshops and kids eating healthy.

Recently she was asked to participate in the AETNA Healthy Food Fight. This is a national recipe competition where recipes are submitted and rated on their nutritional value then asked to be voted online.

Yelensky's recipe for Italian Veggie Pasta Stir Fry that she created for the school has been selected to compete in this national competition, and now she needs your vote to make it to the top 3 and secure an all-expenses paid trip to Philadelphia for the semi-final.
