Park District Featuring Full Slate of Activities for Earth Day

It may not be easy bein’ green, but this April in Oswego it sure will be fun!  Earth Day is going to be a wonderful day to enjoy in Oswego this spring.  On Saturday April 21, 2012, the Oswegoland Park will host a day of conservation, celebration, and education, not to mention kites, crafts, music and fun.

The day will begin with an Earth Day Conservation work morning with Dave Margolis.  Dave is the Natural Resource Manager for the Oswegoland Park District.  He has a goal to get over 100 people out to the Cooks Savanna at 9:00 in the morning to clear invasive plants (like garlic mustard) and replace them with native prairie and woodland species.

This process brings back the natural diversity our area had 200 years ago before development brought invasive plants, which created monocultures of our open space.

The group will also be collecting trash along the Waubonsie greenway.  To join Dave in the Cooks Savanna located behind the Old Post Elementary School, give him a call at 554-4439 or e-mail him at dmargolis@oswegolandpd.org

At 1:00 p.m. the Kite Fly and Festivities begin at PrairieFest Park, located south of Oswego High School off Plank Drive.  Families can come to fly their favorite kites or build one of their own at the event.  The festivities will also feature green demonstrations and activities that encourage mindful and eco-friendly choices.
