Armed Man Wanted For Aggravated Battery with A Gun: Sheriff

Clarence M. Otis, who was involved in a crash in Lisbon Thursday, is also wanted for his involvement in a shooting in Canton.

KENDALL COUNTY, IL — The Kendall County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man who may be in possession of a gun, according to a release.

Sheriff's deputies responded to Route 52 and Lisbon Road for a report of a traffic crash just before 2:30 p.m. Thursday and learned that the man who was involved in the crash, later identified as 28-year-old Clarence M. Otis, had left the scene on foot, police said. Investigators also learned that Otis was a suspect in a shooting incident in Canton, Illinois, and had a warrant for one count of aggravated battery with a firearm, a Class X Felony, and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 Felony.

Police said they learned Otis may have a gun. When deputies arrived, a perimeter was established and investigators searched the area.

A search was done using several K-9 units, drones and assistance from Illinois State Police Air Operations using thermal imaging technology, along with numerous law enforcement officers from agencies throughout the area who responded to assist. Despite an exhaustive search, Otis was not found.

The shooting happened at 9 a.m. Thursday in the 100 block of North 3rd Ave. A 25-year-old woman was shot by Otis, who then fled the scene in a silver Ford Focus. The female was taken to the hospital where she was being treated for her injuries, the Canton Police Department said in a social media post.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity by calling 911. Otis is described as a Black male wearing all black, and approximately 5’9” and 140 lbs with dread locks, according to a Facebook post from the sheriff's office.
