Aurora Man Steals Cash Register, Opens It In Jewel Parking Lot, Then Flees With Money: Oswego Police

Oswego police located the man, 48, in Montgomery after the burglary and charged him with one felony and several misdemeanors.

OSWEGO, IL — An Aurora man is in custody after Oswego police said he stole a cash register from a Jewel-Osco, broke it open in the grocery store parking lot, then fled with cash on Oct. 23.

Antonio L. Alexander, of the 2300 block of Georgetown Circle, is facing charges of burglary, a felony, and misdemeanor theft, resisting a peace officer and obstructing a peace officer following the incident at the grocery store, located at 2540 Route 30, police revealed Friday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched at about 2:18 p.m. to the Jewel for a report of a burglary in progress. By the time they arrived, the suspect had fled with an "undisclosed amount of cash," officials said.

Police located a man matching the suspect's description in a marshy area northeast of Route 30 and Douglas Road in Montgomery and established a perimeter. Alexander "continually refused repeated commands to surrender," but officers maintained visual contact and called the Kane County Sheriff's Officer K-9 Unit to help, according to a news release.

Alexander continued to resist after police told him that a K-9 would be deployed, so officers deployed the dog, and the suspect was "quickly apprehended" and taken into custody, officials said.
