Boulder Hill Student Selected For National Math Acceleration Program

The third grader was selected based on academic excellence, passion for mathematics and school leader recommendations.

OSWEGO, IL — A Boulder Hill Elementary School student was selected to take part in the 2025 National Math Star program.

Operating in seven states, National Math Stars is a 10-year academic initiative designed to support young mathematicians. Churchill Ogbegun, a third grader, was selected from a pool of thousands of nominations based on academic excellence, passion for mathematics and school leader recommendations, Oswego Community Unit School District 308 said in a Friday news release.

As a National Math Star, Ogbegun will receive a long-term package of support valued at over $100,000, district officials said. The package includes:

  • Weekly one-on-one math mentoring
  • Advanced math learning opportunities
  • STEM enrichment materials and opportunities
  • Invitations to math competitions and summer camps
  • Long-term support from 3rd grade through high school

"We are so proud of Churchill for earning this honor," Boulder Hill Elementary Principal Pete Meismer said in a statement. "This accomplishment is a true reflection of his hard work and curiosity. Opportunities like this inspire a love for learning and create pathways for future success in STEM and beyond."
