This week’s athlete of the week takes the court just as an exciting basketball season kicks off. Head varsity coach Abraham Carretto believes junior Aubrey Lamberti symbolizes the E.A.S.T. ideals: excellence, academics, spirit, and tradition.

Lamberti has been playing basketball for East since she was a freshman. Despite making major strides at East, Lamberti remains committed to her teammates and the game, always looking to improve her skills and help the team win on and off the court.

According to head coach Abraham Carretto, Lamberti's passion for the game goes well beyond the scoreboard, pointing out her leadership, teamwork, and growth on and off the court.

“Aubrey has been consistent in her work ethic since I’ve seen her at summer camp as a young player even before coming to East,” Carretto said. “ She has dedicated herself at East and outside of East to become a very good basketball player while always being a good teammate.”

Coach Carretto feels that Lamberti’s teammates have played a large role in helping her grow as a player and a person.

“I think they (her teammates) have brought her out of her shell a bit,” Carretto said. “One of the great things to see is how well she plays with her teammates, and I’ve seen a big connection in gameplay with Aubrey, Maggie Lewandowski, and Desiree Merritt.”

This season, Lamberti is committed to continuing to push herself and her teammates to meet their goals.

“Some goals for my team for this season are to work hard as a whole team and win the conference,” Lamberti said. “A personal goal of mine is to be a good leader as a captain and help my teammates be the best they can be.”

Lamberti’s motivation is fueled by her love of basketball and commitment to her team. She enjoys helping her teammates develop and succeed in addition to improving herself. Working hard and working with others gives her a sense of achievement, and she is always ready for the next challenge.

“Helping my team be successful and win is what drives me to stay active. I always want to work to get better to help my team accomplish great things,” Lamberti said. “ Also, making my teammates, coaches, and family proud keeps me motivated to continue working to get better.”

Lamberti’s parents believe that basketball has played a big role in her character.

“Historically she has been on the quiet side but basketball has helped her become more of a leader both on and off the court,” her parents said. “She has always been a leader through her actions, but now she speaks up more to help her team succeed.”

Off the court, Lamberti’s parents point out the qualities that make her an outstanding student as well as an athlete.

“Aubrey is strong, positive, and determined,” her parents said. “This mindset is going to help her succeed in her future and throughout her life!”

Lamberti’s dedication and leadership will continue to motivate her teammates and set the tone for East’s success as the season goes on. She continues to set an example both on and off the court by living up to the E.A.S.T principles.
