East Student Athlete of the Week: Gabriella Schulte
Junior, Gabriella Schulte, is this week's athlete of the week for the East Co-op Gymnastics team.

As the co-op gymnastics team tumbles home from their fifth-place finish at state, Junior Gabriella Schulte is being recognized by her coach, Michael Borge, as an excellent example of the E.A.S.T. values; excellence, academics, spirit, and tradition.
Through the past 10 years, Schulte has had a talent and passion for gymnastics. She’s devoted her time to commit to the sport itself and her teammates but also the determination to become a better gymnast every day.
Schulte’s coach, Michael Borge, believes she shows excellence every day in practice as she is dedicated to becoming the best version of herself.

“To put in the time that she has dedicated to become an athlete that consistently delivers strong performances by consistently improving her tumbling and dance on floor as well as dialing in her bars routine have both been key to the success the program is having this year,” coach Borge said.
She has worked hard all season to better all of her events and become an all-around better athlete. When it comes to building up her skills coach Borge has a lot of support and respect for her. Not only does her coach assist her in being successful but so do her teammates.

“Every person on the team is so easygoing and energetic,” Schulte said. “They are super super supportive to everyone and just really are the best people to be around. Some of my teammates have become some of my best friends.”
Gabriella’s mom, Carrie Schulte has been nothing but supportive of her athletic career and calls attention to the countless hours of dedication her daughter has shown to all aspects of her life.
“I am so proud watching Gabriella overcome obstacles with grace. She often doesn’t realize her own potential and I love witnessing her surprise herself and gain confidence in gymnastics and in life,” Carrie Schulte said.
Schulte is a strong, hard worker which is apparent to everyone around her, especially her mom. This work ethic will be extremely helpful in future career paths and further education.
Schulte does not plan on continuing her gymnastics career at the collegiate level, but she does plan on using her knowledge toward a career in healthcare.
“Gabriella is most likely going to pursue a career in healthcare. She is most interested in the field of dermatology and esthetics,” Carrie Schulte said. “I think being so involved in sports and learning how to effectively fuel and strengthen the body to optimize performance has played a role in shaping her interests.”
Regardless of what Schulte decides to pursue, she has a strong support system and many people cheering her on.
“She has some great goals for her last year in gymnastics and for her future. I am so excited to watch her crush them! I am her mom, I was her coach for years, and I am her biggest fan” Schulte’s mom said.
