East Student Athlete of the Week: Mitchell Rodenbostel

This week's athlete of the week comes at a perfect time for the start of a striking season. Head varsity coach Reese Henning felt junior Mitchell Rodenbostel was a great example of the E.A.S.T. ideals: excellence, academics, spirit, and tradition.

For the past 5 years, Rodenbostel has been devoting his time to improving his bowling skills. As a third-year member of East’s bowling team and one of the team captains, he continues to prove his commitment to his craft and team.

Head coach Reese Henning believes that Mitchell shows superb sportsmanship and leadership in the bowling program as well as being an amazing example for underclassmen.

“He is one of my team captains this season and is always looking for opportunities to grow himself while also helping out our underclassmen on the team,” Henning said. “He is always one of the first people to volunteer and help out with anything the program needs, big or small.”

Bowling has helped develop Mitchell’s character in many ways such as sportsmanship. He has learned how to be a good leader, teammate and friend to those around him.

“My favorite part about bowling is the team chemistry, but the fact that it can be super individualistic as well. It's a sport that reflects teamwork as well as personal growth.” Rodenbostel said.

Mitchell’s parents, Jeremy and Michelle Rodenbostel have supported Mitchell as he improves not only his bowling skills but the values of being a good teammate and person overall.

“His success on the lanes has helped build confidence, develop leadership skills, and develop a camaraderie not just with his OE teammates, but with many other bowlers from nearby schools that participate in the same leagues and youth tournaments.” Jeremy and Michelle Rodenbostel said.

As he collaborates with other bowlers, he contributes to the success of his peers and gains more experience himself.

Not only do the skills he develops through bowling impact his playing and sportsmanship but will also help him succeed beyond high school bowling. He plans to carry those skills to his future goals of following in his dad's footsteps by entering the business world.

“I’m interested in something business-related. My dad’s a businessman and I think what he does is cool because he’s able to travel the country and have a good time, but also be able to work.” Rodenbostel said.

Whether it’s athletics or academics, Rodenbostel has goals he intends to fulfill. Although he is only a junior, Rodenbostel has greatly impacted East and the lanes.

“My goal for myself this year is to win conference individually, and our team goal is to make it to state. With hard work, I know we have the possibility of making it.” Rodenbostel said.
