AURORA, Ill.—Treating athletic concussions will be among topics explored at Aurora University’s ninth annual “Current Trends in Sports Medicine” workshop on Saturday, Feb. 2.
The program will meet from 8 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. in the University Banquet Hall at Alumni Hall, 1410 Marseillaise Place, Aurora.

The workshop is designed for certified athletic trainers, healthcare professionals and students
AU’s athletic training education program is the sponsor.

The cost is $45 for certified training professionals and $15 for students.
Topics and presenters scheduled are:
-- 8 a.m.: “Psychological Impact of Injury of the Competitive Athlete,” by Kelly Barnes, sports psychology consultant, Sports Psyched
--9 a.m.: “Rehabilitation of the Concussed Athlete and Return to Play Considerations,” Elizabeth Pieroth, board certified neuropsychologist, NorthShore University HealthSystem
--10 a.m.: “Laser Therapy in the Athletic Training Setting,” Brian Cronin, athletic trainer, Oswego High School
--11 a.m.: "Hastening Recovery through Nutritional Intervention,” Judith Lukaszuk, assistant professor in nutrition, Northern Illinois University
--Noon: “Pelvic Stability and its effect on Lumbar, SI, and Hip Dysfunction,” Brynn Nahlik, physical therapist, Athletico/Bulls/Sox Academy
An optional pelvic stability hands-on session from 1 to 2:15 p.m., including lunch, will cost $15.
Enrollment is limited to 50 students. Six continuing education units are available.
