On Saturday, April 14, the inaugural Walk for Alzheimer’s will take place at Oswego East High School. Walk for Alzheimer’s is being hosted by student Brandon Johnson, and with help from his fellow students and their teachers, his goal is to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association.
Walk for Alzheimer’s will begin at 10 a.m., when guests can begin registering for the event. Opening ceremonies will commence at 11, and the walk will start at noon. Participants will be walking around Oswego East High School’s outdoor track and may choose how long they wish to walk. Donations from participants are encouraged, and funds raised will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Illinois Chapter, whose mission is to eliminate this disease and to provide enhanced care and support for all those affected by it.
The Alzheimer’s Association is the largest voluntary health organization dedicated to finding prevention methods, treatments and cure for Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death and costs our economy $200 billion dollars each year, making it the most widespread and costly medical condition for which there is still no effective prevention, treatment, or cure. Donations raised from Walk for Alzheimer’s will be used for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.
