OSWEGO, IL — Five extensively injured in a fiery single vehicle crash Tuesday, the Oswego Police Department said.

In a press release, police said they responded at approximately 9:35 p.m. to the area just south of 1150 Route 25, after a Kendall County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant heard the crash while on patrol and located a Chrysler PT Cruiser on fire with the driver entrapped.

Deputies extinguished the fire and were able to remove the driver, Valencia D. Nichols, 18, of the 300 block of Persimmon Lane, and four other passengers. Police said they were transported to local hospitals for treatment and three of them were later taken to regional hospitals due to their injures.

Nichols was ticketed for reckless driving, passing in a no-passing zone and improper lane usage, according to police.

Police said their preliminary investigation into the accident indicates that Nichols was driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser northbound on Route 25 and attempting to pass another vehicle when she lost control and veered off the roadway, proceeded down a hill, and struck a tree.
