Green will stay on at the school in his position as a business teacher, Waibel said. Waibel also said it is too soon to discuss a replacement for Green.
Under Green's leadership, the Wolves won 14 games in seven seasons. The Wolves were 2-7 this year and did not win a conference game.

OEHS administration released a statement Tuesday afternoon. In part it reads:
"During his tenure as coach, Mark Green cared for the welfare of his athletes through the establishment of a program that was committed to character education and the development of a strong sense of sportsmanship in each and every athlete. The Oswego East administration is proud of the traditions Coach Green has started in the Wolves Football program."
Green also released a statement.
“I appreciate the opportunity I have been given here at OEHS and I am grateful to all the players I have had the privilege to coach and the individuals I have worked with over the past eight years,” Green said “Together we have created experiences, lessons and memories that will last a lifetime. I wish the Oswego East Wolves Football Program much success in the future.”
OEHS parents were not shy recently in their criticism of Green, calling for a change in leadership in a series of messages left on Oswego Patch on Oct. 22.
“No one has ever spoken to me directly about Coach Green resigning,” Waibel said. "Mark Green did a tremendous job with those kids in building character and a spirit of teamwork.”
Wolves wide receiver Jimmy Bitner said Green's positive attitude will be missed.
“Although our season did not turn out how we hoped it would, there no one person that is to blame for the results," he said "Green was a good coach and helped shape us into not only quality football players, but quality individuals as well.”
