Homeowners Lit Their Bed On Fire: Oswego Fire Officials

The house was significantly damaged and deemed uninhabitable after the bedroom fire, officials said.

OSWEGO, IL — A house was seriously damaged and no longer habitable after a bed became "fully engulfed" in flames in a Boulder Hill ranch, Oswego fire officials said.

KenCom was notified just after 7 p.m. April 4 by a caller who stated that "they had lit their bed on fire and that it was fully engulfed." When firefighters arrived at the house in the 100 block of Heathgate Road, they found smoke showing from the back of the house, according to a news release.

Crews launched an aggressive attack to bring the fire under control and stayed on the scene for about 2 hours to ensure no fire spread.

Two dogs were found and assisted, but no injuries were reported to residents or firefighters, officials said.

The house was deemed uninhabitable. Officials said a dollar estimate of the losses was not immediately available.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Oswego Fire Protection District.
