Impaired Drivers Are Focus Of Sheriff, Oswego PD Holiday Enforcements

The two agencies kicked off their own holiday enforcement campaigns to ensure "festive gatherings don't end in tragedy."

OSWEGO, IL — With Thanksgiving in the rearview mirror, local law enforcement agencies are already in the midst of another enforcement campaign, this one encompassing Christmas and New Year's.

The Oswego Police Department and Kendall County Sheriff's Office each kicked off its "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Drive High, Get a DUI" holiday enforcement on Dec. 13 to ensure "festive gatherings don't end in tragedy." Through Jan. 2, they'll join agencies across Illinois that have adopted a zero-tolerance policy for impaired driving.

The campaign is paid for using Illinois Department of Transportation-administered federal highway safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Driving impaired isn’t just dangerous — it's unacceptable. We'll be out in full force, and no excuses will be accepted."

During the previous campaign, which lasted from Nov. 22 to Dec. 2 to encompass Thanksgiving, police issued a total of 31 tickets for violations including speeding and lack of seatbelt use, Patch reported.
