State health officials on Monday announced 974 new cases of the coronavirus and 23 additional deaths from COVID-19. Both numbers are the lowest in some time, but cases typically are undercounted over the weekend, and recent protests have shut down some testing sites in and around Chicago, which could further complicate matters. The stateside total now stands at 121,243 confirmed infections and 5,412 known deaths.
