Kendall Co. Sheriff Increases Unsafe Driving Enforcement

Illinois was one of the four states with the highest number of speeding-related traffic fatalities in 2017​, according to public data.

KENDALL COUNTY, IL — The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office is participating in focused enforcement on speeding and unsafe driving-related traffic offenses on Route 126. This is in response to numerous reports of unsafe drivers and excessive speeding complaints received from members of the community, the sheriff said in a release.

The enforcement initiative started Monday and will continue during rest of the week.

The sheriff's office will join state and local law enforcement agencies for increased enforcement with the Saturation Patrol.

According to data collected in 2017 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, of the 37,133 people that lost their lives in fatal crashes, 26 percent were in a crash involving at least one speeding driver. Out of the 1,097 people that lost their lives in fatal crashes in Illinois, 42 percent were in a crash involving at least one speeding driver, which is the sixth-highest percentage in the country.

"Our community has felt the impact of unsafe driving, and the Saturation Patrol initiative will reinforce our zero tolerance stance on unsafe drivers and excessive speed," the release said.
