The Fourth Annual Oswego Senior Center Garage Sale for 2013 has come and gone. It was held again at Oswego’s empty Fire Station on Main Street on June 21, 22 and 23, followed by July 6 and 7.
We started collecting donations in early April and by sale days we had filled both rooms at the Fire Station with an overflowing variety of quality merchandise to sell to raise money for programs at the Senior Center.
Special thanks go to R.J. Kuhn and the Oswego Fire Protection District Board for allowing us to use the Fire Station for 3 months. Donations came in small amounts in April, but as word of the sale spread people came with truckloads of stuff to add to our sale. Many came once, went home and cleaned out another closet and came again… and again. By the sale days we were pushing out the walls.

Thank you to 60 senior volunteers and staff for loyal and hard work. That includes cleaning, setting up tables, receiving donations, picking up donations, delivering sold items, unpacking boxes, marking, sorting, arranging and rearranging, hauling trash, hauling things inside out of the rain, customer service, cashiering, and packing up at the end.
Thank you to students from OHS, OEHS and Plainfield North for sharing this experience with us. It was our pleasure to help you with your community service hour requirement in exchange for your muscle and stamina. Lisa, Joe, Jake, Nick, Anthony and Elijah: You saved our legs and backs many times over.

Special thanks to Mary Collins and Liz Torgerson who put together and ran the Grandma’s Attic section of our sale with the help of Duane and Vicky Torgerson. They spent many hours searching through and separating the finer and more vintage items that were donated into one special little section, giving our garage sale a touch of class. Thank you for spending many hours researching and setting up your special area.
Thank you to Mae Bozarth for organizing loyal bake sale bakers and keeping the bake shop open. Shoppers need a little snack and it’s always better when it’s homemade.
THANK YOU AGAIN OSWEGO! Your donations and your support of your senior center are helping us provide an environment that improves the quality of life for local seniors. REMEMBER US IN 2014 FOR OUR 5TH ANNUAL SENIOR CENTER GARAGE SALE.
