Letter to the Editor: Brent Lightfoot Ready to Hold District 308 Administration, Staff Accountable

Would you like to support a candidate with a letter to the editor, email steven.jack@patch.com

I would like to make sure everyone comes out to vote in the April 5 Oswego 308 School Board elections.

I believe there needs to be a change in the direction that our current board has taken us.  I am supporting Brent Lightfoot for District 308 School Board.  He has been a resident of the district for a number of years, has three children within the district and is interested in making the board accountable for money spent to educate our children.

Even though Brent is not currently on the board, he has spent numerous hours researching the issues facing District 308 and has come up with solutions that make sense.  The taxpayers of this district do not want another tax increase, but that is the direction our current board is taking us.

An unneeded third high school, no money in the budget to operate it, millions spent on additions to OHS without increasing the student capacity. Why?

Brent also supports making the administration and teachers accountable for teaching our children. Technology and money are not the keys to education.  We need strong teachers and administrators that support them.

The current board and administration cut teachers/support staff only to give themselves raises.  Key services that allowed our teachers to educate our children were cut this year, yet we are looking at spending over $750,000 to make elementary offices larger for the building administration.

Please support Brent and lets get back to why we send our children to school….to LEARN.
