Letter to the Editor: Thanks Due for 26th Annual Park District Triathlon

What a wonderful day for wellness in the Oswegoland area!

The I Tried A Triathlon celebrated its 26th year with a beautiful run through the Boulder Hill neighborhood.  We had a full field of athletes who showed their spirit and determination swimming 250 yards, biking over 6 miles and running over 2 miles.  This triathlon was their accomplishment respected by the many friends, family and fans there to cheer them on.

The Oswegoland Park District would like to thank the neighbors of the Boulder Hill who shared their roads with us on Sunday morning, the Oswego Police Department who monitored a key corner, and Jimmy Johns for their delicious bread post race.

We had an army of volunteers who showed up smiling in the rain to prepare, cut fruit, man the transitions and guide the athletes.  The park district couldn’t have hosted this event without these people who were so generous with their time.

It is a joy to host a community event where so many give their best so we might witness the personal best of others.  The first Sunday in August is always one of my favorites.  The Triathlon Training class cheering each other on and the little kids with signs encouraging their moms and dads are memories I treasure.  It might have kept us busy, but I am already counting the days until the 27th Annual I Tried A Triathlon on Sunday August 5, 2012.

My thanks to everyone involved!
