OSWEGO, IL — Oswego's Brookside neighborhood and Liberty Court are under a mandatory boil order as of Friday afternoon, the Village of Oswego announced.

Crews cited an old broken connection discovered during the construction of a new water connection as the reason for the boil order, which will be in effect "until further notice," officials said.

Water has been restored to the neighborhood, as of the post made at 3:02 p.m.

Water samples have been submitted to a certified lab for testing, but there is an 18-hour mandatory wait period for results, village officials said.

Residents and businesses affected by the boil order will be notified by the Oswego Public Works Department. Both the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Kendall County Health Department have been made aware of the problem, officials said.

In a boil water advisory, residents should bring tap water — even if it's filtered — to a full rolling boil for one minute before using it, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To avoid burns, allow boiled water to cool before using it.
