
Rumors of the demise of appear to have been greatly exaggerated.
The station’s owner for seven years, Thomas Roy, said Shell has not bought out the station at routes 34 and 25. Shell is now the station's gasoline supplier, and part of the supply deal was to rebrand the location, Roy said.
“Everything is still the same,” he said. “Employees are the same, managers are the same, mini mart is the same.”

Roy said the change was necessary in a difficult economy in which large corporations like Walmart and Meijer are able to slash prices below small business owners. The station needed expensive repairs that he could not afford, and the rebranding has made those possible, Roy said.
He also said the price of gasoline will not be determined by Shell, and he will remain competitive with other stations in town.

As for the two message boards on the property that greet travelers at the busy intersection, Roy said they will remain, as well.
“These are a landmark of Oswego, and they will not change,” he said.
A two-line message board is set to be installed below the new digital pricing sign in the next couple of days.
“I’ve heard so many rumors lately about the station. It’s important now that people realize that Marcley's is still here," Roy said.
