Month-Long Oswego Police Campaign Leads To 121 Citations: Cops

Oswego police hosted a month-long distracted driving enforcement in April.

OSWEGO, IL — Oswego police's enforcement campaign for Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April resulted in a total of 121 tickets issued to drivers in the area, officials reported Friday.

Citations included 105 for hands-free violations, 10 for speeding, three for no insurance, one for expired registration and two for other traffic violations, police said.

Oswego police joined forces with Illinois State Police and other local law enforcement and highway safety partners to enforce distracted driving laws for a month.

"Driver distraction is a persistent issue in that often has life-altering consequences," Sergeant Brian Nehring said in a statement. "Issuing a citation is a proven way to get motorists to pay attention or pay the price. Distracted Driving Awareness Month may be over, but we will continue our efforts to stop motorists from engaging in this deadly behavior."
