OEHS Participating in Rocket Challenge

Team will conduct a test launch Saturday.

is pleased to announce their participation in the 2012 Team America Rocketry Challenge.

Seven OEHS students are designing, building and testing a rocket of their own design to meet the challenge of launching two raw eggs to 800 feet and returning them unbroken.  In addition the total flight time must be between 43 and 47 seconds.

The students must use their math and science skills to learn about aerodynamics of a model rocket, design a payload section to project the eggs during flight and landing, as well as building a recovery system to keep the payload section in the air for at least 30 seconds after reaching the required 800 feet.

The rocket design is complete and the students are finishing the construction of their rocket. The team will be testing their rocket at about 10 a.m. Saturday.  The team’s ultimate goal is to be one of the top 100 teams in the nation, they will be invited to compete at the national fly off held near Washington D.C. in May.

As one of the newest OEHS clubs, the team is a totally volunteer run, sponsor funded program, and is looking for anyone interested in supporting their efforts in the 2012 TARC competition.  If you are interested in helping the OEHS TARC Rocket team reach their goal, please contact John R. Miller at jmiller0203@oswego308.org.  Please follow our progress on our website.
