Oswego East Hires New Head Boys' Volleyball Coach
Noel C. Soto takes over from Christine Landschoot.
The Oswego East High School varsity boys’ volleyball team has a new head coach as Noel C. Soto – an assistant for one year – has taken over the reins from Christine Landschoot.
Landschoot coached the team for 1 year. Last year the Wolves posted a 2-27 record.
“I’m very excited and humbled by this opportunity,” Soto said. “My plan is to have the team concentrate on the fundamentals and on putting forth its best effort every practice, every game. If we do that I’m convinced we will be playing winning volleyball throughout the season.”
Soto has been involved in coaching for more than a decade. As assistant coach for the Wolves, Soto concentrated on all phases of training, coaching and team preparation. He designed and implemented an off-season strength and conditioning program. He performed a similar role as assistant coach of the varsity boys’ volleyball team at Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora from 2010 to 2012.
“We’ve had the chance to observe Noel’s abilities and approach to coaching and we are thrilled to announce him as the new coach of our boys’ volleyball team,” said Daniel Debruycker, athletic director at Oswego East. “I’m confident that he has what it takes to run the program at a very high level for many years to come.”
In addition to his duties as head coach at Oswego East, Soto is also the defensive coordinator for the Fox Valley Eagles semi-pro football team. In that role he develops, organizes and implements defensive schemes.
Soto was a member of the football program at Northern Illinois University, in DeKalb, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education in 2009. In 1992, he earned his associate’s degree at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights.
“Coaching has always been very important to me,” Soto said. “I’m happy to be able to help young men develop their physical skills while at the same time helping them to develop positive, confident attitudes for total success, not just in athletics but in their overall lives.”
