Oswego Lifeguard Receives Golden Guard Award

Emma Sullivan was recognized during an undercover video surveillance of the lifeguards during the Aquatic Park's first safety audit of the summer.

A lifeguard at the Oswegoland Park District Aquatic Park is making a splash for all the right reasons.

First year lifeguard Emma Sullivan was recently awarded the Golden Guard Award by Jeff Ellis & Associates for her professionalism and commitment to safety.

In a memo to the Park Board, executive director Rich Zielke explains that the Park District uses Ellis & Associates’ Comprehensive Risk Management program to train and certify the Aquatic Park staff.

As a part of this program, Ellis & Associates make three unannounced visits to visit the park and evaluate lifeguards and overall pool safety measures.

“During an undercover video surveillance of lifeguards during the Aquatic Park’s first safety audit of this summer on June 12, Sullivan was recognized as someone who epitomizes the perfect guard,” wrote Zielke in the memo.

This is the first time the Oswegoland Park District has ever had a recipient of the award, which is given out sparingly.

“Sullivan is a great example of the dedicated lifeguards the District has on staff committed to keeping our Aquatic Park patrons safe,” wrote Zielke.
