The assessment was conducted by a team of trained assessors selected by CALEA from professional law enforcement agencies from across the country.
The Oswego Police Department was a candidate for the “Gold Standard” assessment because of an excellent history of adherence to the CALEA standards and an exemplary record of positive onsite assessments.
This assessment process involved the review of critical department policies and placed special emphasis on interviews with department staff, interviews with organizational partners and public interaction to show compliance with the CALEA standards.
“Excellence” is awarded only to those agencies that most embody the effective use of accreditation as a model for the delivery of enhanced public safety services and by demonstrating excellence in areas concerning the development and implementation of contemporary policy and procedure, continuous organizational improvement and the collection, review and analysis of organizational data for the purpose of public safety improvement.
