Oswego Triathlon to be Held Next Month
The triathlon will consist of a 600 yard Swim, 20km/ 12.8mi Bike, and 5km/ 3.1mi Run.
Do you consider swimming, running and biking up your alley? Then you'll want to be sure to check out the annual Oswego's Allied First Bank Triathlon.
Allied First Bank, in conjunction with the Oswego YMCA, the Oswego Business Community, and local city leaders is hosting the third annual Oswego Triathlon on Sunday, July 21.
The triathlon, a USA Triathlon sanctioned event, will start at 8:00 a.m. at the Fox Ridge Stone Company, located at the intersection of Orchard Road and Route 71.
The Triathlon course will be made up of standard SPRINT distances of 600 yard Swim, 20km/ 12.8mi Bike, and 5km/ 3.1mi Run. All net proceeds for the triathlon benefit the Oswego YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign, The YARN Foundation and Oswego Young Life.
“Last year’s event was a tremendous success, and we are growing it to be even bigger and better this year,” said Triathlon Race Director Paul Rathman. “The fact that we are able to team up with the YMCA, The YARN Foundation and Young Life so that all of the net proceeds for the event benefit their programs is an added bonus!”
The Triathlon start and finish line will be located at Fox Ridge Stone Co., with plenty of on-site parking for competitors, spectators, and volunteers. The swim will take place in the rock quarry, and certified emergency personnel will be on hand. The bike course will loop from Rt. 71, East to Douglas, West down Collins/Grove back through Reservation Road and finally onto Minkler and the run will be through Arbor Gates subdivision. The bike promises to have a few hilly challenges, but the run course is relatively flat.
