Roadway Conditions Lead To 10 Crashes, 1 Hospitalization: Oswego PD

The Oswego Police Department took 10 reports of car crashes as a result of slick roads Thursday night.

OSWEGO, IL — Slick roads led to 10 car crashes and one hospitalization Thursday in Oswego, according to police.

Five of 10 crashes happened on Wolf's Crossing Road, with four of the instances occurring at the intersection with Bluegrass Parkway, spokesperson Cathy Nevara told Patch.

One crash resulted in a 22-year-old California woman being hospitalized with injuries. The two-car collision occurred around 7:35 p.m. near Route 34 and Odgen Falls Boulevard, according to police.

A Mazda, driven by a 60-year-old Aurora man, was headed east on Route 34 when it rear-ended a Mercedes, despite attempting to avoid a collision, officials said in Friday's blotter.

About two hours before the crash, police posted on Facebook to urge drivers to use caution due to icy roads.

"We've received reports of multiple crashes in the past hour, and conditions are very slick," officials said.

The following crashes occurred throughout the day Thursday:

  • 4:48 p.m. at 1525 Harvey Road: Two-car crash with no injuries and no tows.
  • 5:19 p.m. at Wolf Road and Roth Road: A car slid off the roadway due to road conditions and rolled onto its side. No one was injured, and the driver called for a private tow.
  • 5:20 p.m. Wolf Road and Bluegrass Parkway: A car crashed into a tree. No one was injured, and the driver called for a private tow.
  • 5:27 p.m. at Wolf Road and Bluegrass Parkway: Two-car crash with no injuries and no tows.
  • 5:27 p.m. Wolf Road and Bluegrass Parkway: Two-car crash with no injuries and no tows.
  • 5:30 p.m. at Wolf Road and Bluegrass Parkway: Two-car crash with no injuries and no tows.
  • 5:31 p.m. Orchard Road and Mill Road: A car slid on the bridge and got stuck on a cement pillar. No one was injured, and the car was towed.
  • 5:42 p.m. at Old Post Road and Douglas Road: Two-car crash with no injuries and no tows.
  • 6:56 p.m. at 720 Versailles Parkway: Two-car crash with no injuries and one car towed.
