Salon Clips Crew Cuts for Cancer

Experience Salon takes on St. Baldrick's fundraiser.

Kim Illingworth knew she had to do something.

The owner of in downtown Oswego was searching for a St. Baldrick’s fundraiser in town this year and couldn’t fine one. That’s when she decided that she’d just do it herself.  So, on Friday afternoon, Illingworth turned the salon into head-shaving central.

“I know in the past they’ve done it at the high school, but I found out they weren’t doing it this year,” she said. “I thought, ‘well, I’ll just do it myself.’”

A bake sale and raffle also was included in the event, which ended up raising about $4,000 for the childhood cancer charity. 

Illingworth has owned her cozy two-seat salon for about four years. She said she has plans to continue the Saint Baldrick’s fundraiser in the future.

“It was definitely an awesome event,” she said. “ I think next year I’ll have to find a larger venue.”
