The Oswego Police Department participated in a "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign, targeting impaired drivers from Dec. 13 to Jan. 2.

OSWEGO, IL — The Oswego Police Department unveiled how many tickets they issued during the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign from Dec. 13 to Jan. 2.

Officials said on Monday that police wrote 48 citations for seat belt, speeding, distracted driving and other traffic offenses. Officers also made five arrests.

To achieve their results, police intensified enforcement efforts, deploying additional patrol units to deter "risky behaviors and catch offenders."

"This effort isn't just about enforcement," Sergeant Brian Nehring said in a statement. "It's about protecting lives and ensuring every celebration ends safely for everyone."

The enforcement initiative, administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, was funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
