St. Patrick's Day Campaign Results Released By Oswego Police

The Oswego Police Department targeted drunk driving and improper seat belt usage for more than a week surrounding St. Paddy's.

OSWEGO, IL — The Oswego Police Department released the results of its St. Patrick's Day enforcement campaign targeting drunk driving and seat belt usage.

Between March 7 and 18, deputies issued a total of 51 tickets. Here's the breakdown of citations written:

  • 48 seat belt violations
  • 1 distracted driving
  • 2 insurance-related violations

Officers also made two traffic-related arrests during the enforcement period.

"We strongly enforce traffic laws for one reason — to save lives," OPD spokesperson Cathy Nevara said in a statement.

Oswego police conducted the initiative in collaboration with state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois. The effort was paid for by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
