DeMont began her career in 1982 at neighboring District 204. After raising her family, in 1994 she was hired by District 308 as a music teacher at Boulder Hill Elementary.
In 2002, she moved up into a temporary administrative role covering an assistant principal vacancy at The Wheatlands Elementary. The following year she remained at the administrative level but split her duties between serving as the assistant principal at Fox Chase Elementary and as the district’s Staff Development Coordinator.
DeMont was awarded her own principalship in 2005 at The Wheatlands Elementary.
DeMont holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master’s in educational leadership from Aurora University. She was named the 2003 District 308 Leader of the Year by her fellow administrators. Under her leadership, her school was the recipient of Illinois Academic Excellence Award, meeting the criteria of excellence for the past five years.
“Janet is a personable, respected and knowledgeable principal. It is rewarding to have a person with a high level of character, coupled with unique abilities and talents as a veteran school leader, to serve as principal at East View,” said Superintendent Matthew Wendt.
DeMont resides in Oswego with her husband, Mark, a former East View student. The couple has two grown children who graduated from the District 308 school system.
The position for principal at The Wheatlands remains open.
